Classical Art for Homeschoolers

Foundations of Painting

We desire to paint the world around us, but where do we begin? We begin with the most basic building blocks, the foundational principles of classical painting. In this video series, Kevin takes you step by step and opens up the world of painting, giving thorough demonstrations of which oil paints and brushes to use, how to prepare your canvas, and introduces you to key fundamental concepts such as geometric essence and light source. With these lessons, you are given the tools to see simply, and to draw the world around you.

About
Kevin’s paintings draw on the classical methods he acquired in Florence, and are applied in a contemporary context to the world around him. Interested in the sublime that is to be found in the mundane, his paintings speak to us in common terms, the poetry of everyday life.

Course reviews

"This course takes the intimidation out of moving from drawing to painting.  It clearly explains the mystery of materials and how to get started."
"Everything you need to know to get started with painting. Very clearly laid out."
